“Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
Staying grounded can be so helpful when it feels like our lives, what we know and count on, are constantly shifting. It might take some intentional practice to connect to a something that feels like stability. Connecting with the ground, the Earth itself, is one way to do this.
Take a short walk, even just down the block and back. Take each step as if you are “kissing the Earth with your feet.” Try to stay present to the sensation in your feet and notice how it feels to slow down each step so you really feel it. (If you have the opportunity, try this practice with bare feet, on grass!)
Each time we take the time to come into the present moment, we offer ourselves a refuge from worry and thought, a break from demands and constraints and repetitive thought about the unknown. Small doses of restoration throughout the day are so important for sustaining energy and perspective.
